How to monitor bandwidth usage per device

If you’re like most people, you probably have a home network with multiple devices connected to it. And if you’re like most people, you probably don’t know how to monitor the bandwidth usage of each individual device on your network.

There are a few reasons why you might want to do this. Maybe you’re trying to troubleshoot a slow internet connection, or maybe you’re just curious about how much data your devices are using. Either way, it’s not as difficult as you might think.

In this article, we’ll show you how to use a free tool called NetWorx to monitor the bandwidth usage of each device on your network. We’ll also show you how to interpret the results so you can make sense of what you’re seeing.

So let’s get started!

Step 1: Download and install NetWorx

The first thing you need to do is download and install NetWorx. You can get it for free from the SoftPerfect website. Just scroll down to the “Download” section and choose the version that’s right for your operating system.

Once you’ve downloaded the installer, just run it and follow the prompts to install NetWorx. The installation process is pretty straightforward, so we won’t go into it here.

Step 2: Run NetWorx and select your network adapter

Once you’ve installed NetWorx, launch the program and you should see a window like this:

The NetWorx main window

The first thing you need to do is select the network adapter that you want to monitor. In most cases, you’ll just want to select the “Default” adapter, which is usually the one that’s connected to your router.

If you’re not sure which adapter to select, you can click the “Detect” button and NetWorx will try to automatically detect the right adapter for you. Or you can just select the “All Adapters” option to monitor all of the adapters on your system.

Step 3: Configure the monitoring settings

Once you’ve selected the adapter you want to monitor, it’s time to configure the monitoring settings.

The first thing you need to do is decide how often you want NetWorx to take measurements. The default setting is to take a measurement every second, but you can change this if you want. Just click the “Measurement interval” drop-down box and select the interval you want to use.

Next, you need to decide what you want NetWorx to measure. The default is to measure both the incoming and outgoing traffic, but you can change this if you want. Just click the “Include” drop-down box and select the traffic you want to measure.

Finally, you need to decide how you want NetWorx to display the results. The default is to display them in a graph, but you can also choose to display them in a table or a log file. Just click the “Display results” drop-down box and select the option you want to use.

Once you’ve configured the settings, just click the “Start” button to start monitoring.

Step 4: Interpret the results

Once you’ve started monitoring, you should see results like this:

The NetWorx results

The first thing you’ll notice is that there are two lines on the graph, one for incoming traffic and one for outgoing traffic. The blue line represents incoming traffic and the green line represents outgoing traffic.

You can see the total amount of traffic that’s been transferred by looking at the numbers on the left side of the graph. In this example, you can see that a total of 1.2 GB of data has been transferred.

You can also see the average transfer rate by looking at the numbers on the right side of the graph. In this example, you can see that the average transfer rate is about 12 Mbps.

If you want to see more detailed information, you can switch to the “Table” view or the “Log” view. The “Table” view will show you a summary of the traffic that’s been transferred over time, and the “Log” view will show you a detailed log of all the traffic that’s been transferred.

Step 5: Save the results

If you want to save the results so you can refer to them later, just click the “File” menu and select the “Save” option. You can then choose to save the results as a CSV file, an HTML file, or a text file.

And that’s all there is to it!

Monitoring the bandwidth usage of each device on your network is a great way to troubleshoot slow internet connections or just keep an eye on your data usage. And with NetWorx, it’s easy to do. Just download and install the program, select the network adapter you want to monitor, and start collecting data.
