How to Check the Refresh Rate (Hz) of Your Monitor

You can check the refresh rate of your monitor in two ways. The first way is to use the Windows Display Properties dialog box. The second way is to use a special utility designed to display your monitor’s refresh rate. We’ll show you both methods.

To check the refresh rate using the Windows Display Properties dialog box:

  1. Right-click on the desktop and choose Properties from the pop-up menu.
  2. Click on the Settings tab.
  3. Click on the Advanced button.
  4. Click on the Monitor tab.
  5. Click on the Screen Refresh Rate drop-down list and select the refresh rate you want to use.
  6. Click on the Apply button.
  7. Click on the OK button.

To check the refresh rate using a special utility:

  1. Download and install the NirCmd utility.
  2. Open a Command Prompt window.
  3. Type the following command and press Enter:
nircmd.exe setdisplaymode id 1 refreshrate 60

Replace 60 with the refresh rate you want to use.

You can also use the MonitorInfoView utility to check the refresh rate of your monitor.
